Houston Retail Following Hurricane Harvey

Houston retail in the golf industry was hard hit during Hurricane Harvey.  Many clubs suffered from water damage on the course, flooding of the clubhouse, loss of the entire facility, and in some cases loss of the entire facility two years in a row!  Three of our four Houston properties are still remodeling, and entire inventories had to be removed from the property.  The upside is that everything will be new and fresh from hangers, carpet, paint and product!

Our customers are very anxious to have their golf, tennis, and fitness operations back in working order and always proud and supportive of our business.  Since it was hard to predict the reconstruction schedule, we allowed our pre-books to ship and timidly added goods since everything was lost due to mold.  It was a relief to see the flurry of holiday shopping and we promptly sold out of goods in our temporary locations.  On another positive note, no one could have anticipated the cold weather snap which now puts us in a position of reordering winter, heavy goods to keep our customer warm and dry through April.

Properties that did not experience a flooded store scored one of the largest December/holiday shopping on record.  We were quite surprised to see the numbers roll in.  Of course, each dollar was earned, not only through the typical orders but through special events that brought customers to the stores on a daily basis attributed to our trunk show schedule.
